John and I don't really watch that much TV except Beaver Football and I watch Monday night TLC. I am so impressed with TLC lately. Granted we don't enjoy LA Ink and the hosts on What Not To Wear can sometimes be cruel but Monday nights are my favorite night to watch TV. Usually we miss Little People Big World because we are coming home from Home Group but we'll catch up sometimes. My two favorites are the next two shows, Jon & Kate +8 and 17 Kids and Counting. Jon & Kate +8 has been a favorite since we got cable last year although there was awhile there where Kate was being pretty rude to Jon but I think she has changed her attitude and is getting better.
TLC's newest show, 17 Kids & Counting, is my new favorite. This family, The Duggars, has 17 kids and she is pregnant with #18. They are followers of our Lord Jesus and have chosen no birth control and to put it in the Lord's hands. I'm not sure that I would be that brave especially with the pregnancy part of it, (although I think she had a couple sets of twins so I think she has ONLY had 14 or 15 pregnancies, LOL). What I am most impressed about is what TLC has done with this program. On one episode Josh, their oldest, got engaged, the entire program (actually two 1/2 hour programs) was dedicated to them explaining the reason for courting, why they needed chaparones for every date and why they don't kiss until their wedding day. I don't believe they used any scripture in the actual episode but they talked about how God has ordained it to be this way and the beauty in it. Last nights episode was them going to a family reunion but on the way had to stop at the Creation Research Museum in Ohio (I think??). Ken Hamm was on there expaining that creation is scientifically based and that the Bible accounts for a 7 day creation. They showed, what it seemed like, the entire museum from Adam & Eve to Noah, the Grand Canyon and some other really poinant details of the museum.
For one thing, I am impressed with TLC that they don't seem to cut out any of the "good" stuff but what I am mostly impressed about is that they haven't pulled the plug on the show or changed their focus of the show. I'm assuming The Duggars wouldn't do it if they did. They always show interviews with the kids and what they believe and they are always right there backing up their parents and stating the facts as their parents have taught them. One of the other things about this show is that TLC seems to promote it as one of their top shows.
This family makes me think of this verse:
Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:23
They are presenting themselves as sanctified FROM the world, they explain why and they are being held blameless before Jesus. I don't get the impression that TLC is mocking them but I'm sure there are people out there who are making fun of them, (and I'm sure there are the people who want it off the air). I think we should pray that this show stays on TLC, more lives are touched by them and some people might start to ask where their joy comes from (we know ;) ).
Here are three links to their episode and their family website.
